Plans for next Europe Cup tournament

There will be another European tournament next spring, that is for sure. For that tournament we will make a couple of small changes.

First of all, the rules will be overlooked and polished once more. Also, we will add one more member to TGMA to help out. Those are the two main things.

We also plan to change the tournament schedule. According to the poll that is now on the front page of Consolehockey, more than 50% wants a tournament where we divide teams according to their strength. This is a possibility, yes. There are some problems with this way of making a tournament schedule. Dividing teams according to their strength will basically create two tournaments, that is something we want to avoid. There are solutions such as maybe letting only 33% of the teams from the weaker tournament schedule, and 66% of the teams from the stronger tournament schedule making the playoffs. This is something we have to discuss more about with the community.

Dividing teams according to their strength will not remove the issue where teams quit the tournament. There will always be a "weakest of the weak" team that might not want to continue to play. Besides, most of the times a team quits the tournament is because some of their players lack interest in playing and it comes to the point where that team lacks players for the remainder of the tournament.

The biggest issue this tournament has been the time change between teams. We will take serious thinking about dividing teams into a Western and an Eastern conference. The Eastern conference would be all of the Russian teams and perhaps Latvian teams and other Continental teams. The Western conference would be Swedish and Finnish teams along with a few strong Continental teams. This is ofcourse something we also have do discuss within the community. That's where polls come into play, it's a very useful tool for TGMA to gain more information about what the community wants.

There are some people that are unhappy with the way TGMA has worked this tournament. I can understand that, there will always be some people who disagree with a decision. Some people claim there has been many strange decisions from TGMA this tournament. I do not understand exactly what they mean, there has been only one "publicly known" incident where TGMA had to step in. It was a minor incident that did not affect the tournament at all. Still, many people were frustrated.

For me, it is very important to have a dialogue with the unhappy players. I don't want to be unreachable if some players have questions. I know how frustrating it is to ask questions and never get any answer (EA SPORTS...). This is not the way it is going to be in TGMA, we will continue to be open for questions.
